Palm Beach, Fla. – Feb. 22, 2016 – Actress, model and author Brooke Shields lived up to her legendary status and enthralled the audience as keynote speaker at the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope’s signature Shop The Day Away Luncheon™. Nearly 500 guests were in attendance on Feb. 22 to welcome Ms. Shields to The Breakers Palm Beach for the luncheon and silent auction that raised $600,000 for the organization.

Melissa D. Parker, Janet Levy and Patty Myura served as Chairwomen of the event with support from Grand Benefactor Chair Gloria Herman; Honorary Chairs Jayne Sylvester-Malfitano and Barbara Zand; Vice Chairs Judy Richards, Terri Schottenstein and Cindy Sites; Junior Chairs Abby Beebe and Nicole Dicocco and Auction Chair Blanche Napoleon-McCoun.

WPTV Newschannel 5 personality Kelley Dunn led an entertaining question-and-answer session with Ms. Shields, covering her many personal and professional endeavors. The engaging conversation, which featured fascinating tidbits on Shields’ life and experiences, was the highlight of the Luncheon.

The committee’s vision and collective energies transformed The Breakers ballroom into one of the largest silent auction rooms with more than 600 Designer luxury designer items featuring new bags, shoes, jewelry, clothes, beauty, home and more, plus a great selection of vintage hand bags. The auction, which featured unique, high fashion items, even drew the attention of Ms. Shields who browsed and bid in the extensive auction before taking the stage.

“We are overjoyed with the success of our inaugural luncheon,” shared Stanton Collemer, executive director of the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope. “There are no words to share how grateful we are for the support that will help us help an even greater number of people battling cancer.”

Funds raised at the event support CAHH’s mission of assisting the children, adults and families affected by cancer and the subsequent bills they acquire during the treatment and recovery process. Due to the high costs of cancer treatment and the severity of the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatments, many cancer patients suffer severe financial setbacks and difficulties resulting in their inability to continue their medical insurance, which pays for their ongoing treatments; maintain transportation to go to treatment, or pay for their housing and living expenses, leaving individuals and families without a place to live. The Cancer Alliance

of Help and Hope offers assistance to qualified cancer patients in Palm Beach County to ease this burden.

The Shop The Day Away Luncheon™, benefitting the Cancer Alliance of Help & Hope, was presented in partnership with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, part of UHealth – The University of Miami Health System. For more information, please visit
